Position: Ready-Mix Truck Driver
Location: South Austin/Buda area (Training at North Plant location)
Pay: Starting at $22 an hour and up, depending on experience
Requirements:
- Minimum of Class B commercial driver license
- Must be 21 years old or older
Job Description: As a Ready-Mix Truck Driver, you will operate a heavy diesel truck (Gross Vehicle Weight over 26,000 pounds) equipped with an auxiliary concrete mixer. You will be responsible for maintaining the concrete in a liquid state during transport and maneuvering the truck to deliver the concrete mixture at construction sites.
Work Schedule:
- Typical hours: 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday – Friday, and 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM Saturday
- Hours may vary depending on workload and weather conditions
- Flexible availability is required
- Overtime is required to meet customer demands and is paid at 1½ times the standard hourly rate
Duties:
- Maneuver truck into loading and unloading positions at plant and job sites
- Operate mixer to produce concrete, adjusting mixture as requested by customers
- Assemble chutes and operate levers to release concrete
- Clean truck after loading and each delivery to prevent concrete from hardening
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Conduct basic vehicle maintenance tasks and minor repairs
- Fill out delivery paperwork, collect payment from customers when required, and keep records of daily activities
- Monitor truck and equipment to ensure proper operation and professional appearance
- Spray truck surfaces with protective compounds for cleaning
- Use equipment such as mixer controls, CB radios, mobile phones, and GPS
- Follow all state and federal regulations
- Drive trucks to weigh stations along routes as required
- Assist with various plant operations as needed
- Occasionally operate dump trucks and other plant equipment
Work Environment:
- Work in hot (90°F+) and cold (32°F-) temperatures
- Walk on uneven, muddy, and slippery terrain
- Exposure to noise levels, diesel exhaust, dust, and water mist
- Variable lighting conditions
Essential Job Functions:
- Lift and carry chutes weighing 52 pounds
- Manually open truck hood, requiring up to 75 pounds pushing force
- Climb truck ladder up to 9 feet
- Balance on a platform while cleaning hopper
- Demonstrate good balance and agility to step up/down from truck cab and walk on uneven surfaces
- Reach from ground to 72 inches above ground
- Operate hand tools and hose nozzle
- Extended periods of sitting while driving
- Near, distant, and color vision
- Clear speech and comprehension
Physical and Skills Requirements:
- Comfortable wearing PPE (high-visibility work shirt, vest, coat, work pants, gloves, hardhat, safety-toed boots, safety glasses)
- Knowledge of English language, grammar, and spelling
- Mechanical aptitude and basic math skills
- Ability to read and interpret mixer truck gauges
