Job Summary
GSG Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced Molecular Biologist II to support the Bacteriology Branch at a leading public health laboratory in Austin, TX.

This opportunity is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), molecular biology, microbiology, and bacteriology who are looking to make a meaningful impact in public health.

Responsibilities
  • Perform highly complex molecular testing using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
  • Conduct molecular biology laboratory procedures following established protocols.
  • Perform bioinformatics analysis using NGS software and analysis pipelines.
  • Utilize microbiology and bacteriology techniques to support laboratory testing.
  • Ensure laboratory quality assurance and quality control standards are maintained.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new molecular testing methods.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Follow all laboratory safety, regulatory, and quality requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in:
    • Molecular Biology
    • Microbiology
    • Biology
    • Clinical Laboratory Science
    • Medical Technology
    • Biochemistry
    • Or another closely related biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution.
  • Experience performing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
  • Strong molecular biology laboratory experience.
  • Microbiology and bacteriology laboratory knowledge and hands-on experience are highly preferred.
  • Experience with bioinformatics software or NGS data analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow laboratory protocols.

  • Bacteriology testing
  • PCR/qPCR
  • DNA/RNA extraction
  • NGS library preparation
  • Illumina sequencing platforms
  • Laboratory quality assurance/quality control
  • Laboratory equipment maintenance
