A Grant Specialist typically handles responsibilities related to the management, oversight, and administration of state and federal grant programs that support environmental quality, public health, and regulatory compliance. Below are the core duties and qualifications you can expect:
Key Duties / Responsibilities
- Review, evaluate, and administer grant applications to determine subrecipient eligibility and compliance with program criteria.
- Coordinate and oversee grant-related activities such as application solicitations, tracking, technical assistance, workshops, and public outreach.
- Ensure grantee compliance by reviewing and analyzing required reports, verifying data, reconciling grant records, and enforcing grant conditions.
- Enter and maintain grant-related data in TCEQ databases, reconcile with contracts and application files, and produce status reports.
- Assist and guide applicants through program requirements, application processes, and policy interpretation.
- Work with program managers and division leadership to set priorities, deadlines, and budgets for grant programs (for example, the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) grants).
Required / Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a related field (e.g. environmental science, public administration, finance) plus experience in grant management or technical programs.
- Expertise in interpreting technical or regulatory information and relaying it to stakeholders in accessible language.
- Strong analytical skills: the ability to evaluate financial data, spot trends, reconcile records, and summarize information.
- Proficiency in data entry, database systems, and consistency in maintaining accurate records.
- Good communication and public engagement skills for conducting workshops, assisting applicants, and coordinating with external partners.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and coordinate complex tasks across teams.
