GSG is looking for Finishing Technicians for a 2nd Shift contract position.
This is an on-site role at a manufacturing facility in Taylor, TX.
Candidates must be able to report to the facility for every scheduled shift.
No applications will be accepted from candidates outside Taylor or the greater surrounding areas.
Pay: $18.16 per hour (weekly pay)
Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 3:30pm–1:30am (some overtime may be available)
Job Summary
The Finishing Technician (Sander) is responsible for the final sanding, painting, cleaning, and packing of a fabricated piece part, following the specific requirements of each piece ticket. This role involves working with artificial stone in a high-paced manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sander:
- Assemble, final sand, paint and polish finished piece parts
- Accurately measure and finish tops with correct size bevel, square, radius, or other edge finish as stated on job ticket
- Repair chipped or broken corners as needed
- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs
- Working with respirable crystalline silica
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to demonstrate comprehension of positional work instructions
- Ability to use a calibrated tape measure and identify standard and metric units based on ticket requirements
- Able to sand correct size bevel, square, and radius
- Able to sand/fit ISLE runs
- Able to use grinder to “sand to fit MEDG”
- Knowledge of the difference between sandpaper grits
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Capable of becoming forklift certified
- Able to work overtime including weekends
- Able to operate heavy machinery including but not limited to: belt sander, orbital sander, Anver lift, grinder, panel saw, and downdraft table
- Ability to learn PACK software and perform basic computer functions
- Ability to effectively communicate within a team
- Ability to collect and document all needed data at assigned work station using the appropriate forms
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience:
- Minimum 3 months of related experience
- Basic PC knowledge required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand for a minimum of 8 hours
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
ADDITIONAL ONBOARDING REQUIREMENTS
- Every candidate must complete a physical, pulmonary function test (PFT), and 9-panel drug screen at Concentra
- Fit testing must be completed onsite during orientation — shaving policy must be followed to ensure compliance
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn for the entire shift, including:
- baseball hat with bump cap insert
- Safety glasses
- Steel toe boots
- Mask
