GSG is looking for a Research Specialist for a contract position.   
Pay: $44.25 per hour (weekly Pay)
Monday through Friday 8 AM- 5 PM (some overtime may be available occasionally)
Hybrid position. Candidates must live in the Austin Area!
No out of Austin applications will be accepted. 
 
Job Description:
  • This position will be responsible for review and processing of research and program data requests, as well as performing SHARP (new user database) user acceptance testing (UAT) and data validation. 
  • Request processing will include program review of requests requiring institutional review board (IRB) packets and corresponding with the principal investigator or point of contact to facilitate timely coordination with the agency IRB and data delivery. 
  • Testing may include activities such as reviewing program user stories to validate the delivered output satisfies the intent, performing queries of agency data sources to validate Snowflake tables have been correctly populated and dashboard products display correct values that are consistent with program rules and data use agreements. 
  • These positions will report to the director of the Health Information Resources Unit. 
  • These positions are subject to criminal background checks as will be accessing controlled databases.
 
Major Duties
  • Request processing will include program review of requests requiring institutional review board (IRB) packets and corresponding with the principal investigator or point of contact to facilitate timely coordination with the agency IRB and data delivery.

  • Review program user stories to validate the delivered output satisfies the intent.
  • Perform queries of agency data sources to validate tables have been correctly populated.
  • Verify dashboard products display correct values that are consistent with program rules and data use agreements.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods and their application to research analysis; measurement, testing, and evaluation; and research methods, principles, techniques, and philosophies.
  • Knowledge of SAS and SQL.
  • Knowledge of database management principles and technology.
  • Knowledge of appropriate data quality assurance procedures.
  • Skill in conducting qualitative and quantitative research, in the use of a computer and applicable software, and in using statistical tools and programs to query and analyze data.
  • Skill in effective report writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and administer research projects; to evaluate research data; to ensure the development of measuring instruments with respect to reliability, relevance, and validity; to interpret and publish research findings; and to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to manage, manipulate and analyze complex relational databases.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to effectively interact, and communicate with partners, customers, stakeholders, and wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, legislation, and regulations related to research activities and vital statistics data.
